I am making each of my six grandchildren (5 boys and 1 girl - all under 12) quilts and giving these to them as "unbirthday" presents. So far, I have made my granddaughter (age 6) a paper doll quilt, two of my grandsons (ages 6 and 8) "I Spy" quilts and now I am trying to decide on a pattern for my 11 year old grandson. Do you think a Puzzle Block quilt is appropriate for a boy this age? He doesn't have anything special he is interested in (like sports, etc) and I thought that this quilt would work. I want something that he will use for a few years. What do you think???

Maybe his mother could suggest things for him. I think the puzzle quilt is great. Maybe animals or fast cars. Subtle dark colors. I think he will love it because you made it...unless it is pink. lol

His mom feels anything I make will be fine - he is on the "young" side and other than video games, etc (which he loves), he likes lots of things "a little". I plan to make him another quilt when he is older so this one can still be more "youthful", if you know what I mean. He loves all the things I make him (usually clothes - shorts, jackets, etc). None of the animal stuff seems right and cars are not an interest either. His favorite color is green and there is a pattern in the latest Connecting Threads in blues and greens I am also considering. However, I probably have enough fabric in my stash to make the Puzzle quilt and only would need the backing.Originally Posted by eashka
