I am in a hand quilting group and we use old time floor frames. I suspect they were made by husbands years ago. We have left handed and right handed quilters. It works out just fine. We sandwich the quilts and pin them to the frames and we sit all around them. Such fun. I can send pics if you want. Pm me if you do and I will take pictures tomorrow at the Bee!

You all are wonderful! What treasures! Thanks for responding so quickly. I'm using your suggestions as we speak.

I found both of mine of craigslist. They are nearly identical, and are both the old 2-rail kind. I got them for $40 each, but I see them there frequently for about $100. If you buy an older one, just be sure that all the main parts are there. Carriage bolts and wing nuts can be replaced easily, but the main wooden parts are more difficult to replace or make. Good luck! We'll have to share notes on the hand quilting on a frame.

Our group ( in our little community) quilts on a floor frame, and we've all learned to quilt most directions. It just takes some practice. I would recommend that you start out with a "big stitch", and be very forgiving. The ladies you are donating the quilts to will certainly not be judging their quilts on perfect quilting, but will be very grateful for your thoughtfulness.

Luvstoquilt,
What beautiful quilts and such beautiful ladies doing the quilting! Thank you for the pictures and encouragement. I'm very grateful for both!
