Thanks to all that replied. That was my basic understanding of the legalities also, especially if it's an on-line group available to a lot of people. It would just be nice to be able to share the journey with others who are interested, but enjoy sharing the process, ideas, tips, or need some group motivation to keep going on long-term projects...

I noticed the OP said "share their pattern", not share a COPY of their pattern. In other words, could they simply hand their original pattern to others in the group to work with.............not a copy? A lot of plans, like house plans, are for building only one house and is usually stated on the plans. Do quilt patterns ever state that they are only for making one quilt?
