Default question on sashing and corner stone set on point?

I am working on the quilt with hand embroidered blocks,I squared them up but had to square them to 16 x 17, if I cut them 16x16 some of the stitching would be cut off so went with 16x17 I couldn't do 17x17 as they are all different sizes and just wouldn't work out, they are at least all the same size now.

I would like to set them on point with sashing and corner stones..when measuring for the side triangles do I measure the block with the sashing for the size of the block them cut the triangles for the sides?.

I just can't get my brain around setting on point. I am almost ready to just set them straight.. Hope someone can help me on this.. I'm sure there is a real easy way to set on point with sashing.. .. Thanks for your help

You are going to have an issue setting a rectangle on point. I would first add some sashing to all the blocks, to bring them up to 18X18. Then you can add sashing etc.
Here's Bonnie Hunter's chart for on point sets.
