questions ...

Hi, I have a couple of questions.
Is cotton broadcloth a good fabric to use?
What is the best tension setting to use for doing the quilting? I keep getting the under thread showing through a bit and the factory setting is 4 on my machine. I have tried other settings but it doesn't get any better. Is the top the thread the higher number or visa-versa?? I can't remember. It seems that it is the higher is the top thread and the lower is the bobbin??
(I have a brother SE400.)
I just thought someone might be able to help answer these for me.
Thanks!

I used broadcloth on a quilt for my GS and it worked very well
and is durable.I also used it for backing on moms quilt I pre wash all fabric so was not worried about different shrinking factors. I think broadcloth is a cotton poly blend so will not shrink as much as 100% cotton.

if bobbin thread is showing on top loosen the top tension (lower the number) if the top thread is showing on bottom tighten top tension (higher number) i would change by 1/2 number at a time test test test
