Found this tute on this board.. Its great. Its for thread basting, but I'm sure you could use glue, or pins.

I love this method from Sharon Schamber, after watching her youtube video, I was hooked. Got the finished boards at Home depot, and also glued flannel to one side, it helps the fabric stay in place. I can't crawl on the floor any more, so this is a wonderful solution.

I have not tried this method but will definitely be trying it very soon. Thanks so much for all of the great help that can be found from all of you talented people. I have learned so much since I have been a member of this board.

I have one flat board and spray baste with it. well using it to fold the quilt over and over and over. spray and unfold as I go along. I also press down on the board each time i unfold. then move quilt on my table and fold and unfold again. then do the ends that wouldn't fit on the table. works for me.

I have been using Sharon Shambers' method with the boards for several quilts now. In one quilt kit I only had about an 3/4 inch on each left and right side of the quilt. Using the board method I was able to keep the quilt straight and basted with the herringbone method...The quilt turned out beautifully. I bought LONG white painted and sealed boards (big enough for a KING size) from Home Depot---fairly cheap--$8 each if I remember correctly. (I am frugal so I use these long boards for everything). I hide them behind my living room couch when not in use. Also I use masking tape to secure some long strips of batting onto the board and the fabric adheres better to the batting. Since I don't want to use spray anything (allergies in the home), this method has worked---no back pain. I don't pin or spray. I hand quilt in my lap and turn the quilt any time that I need to. LOVE LOVE LOVE this method. It does take time to baste a large quilt, but the hassle free quilting after the basting is well worth the extra effort for me.

I loooove using boards for sandwiching quilts and I use Elmer's glue instead of pins now. It's a back saver! ! !

I have the 3x6 utility table and when DH saw what I was doing he thought I needed another table for a larger quilt for the future, like our bed so he bought a 3x3 table for an extension.. He sanded/smoothed the boards and also bought another board and cut it in half for smaller but I use the 6 ft boards for the smaller ones with no problem. I don' have a problem yet with the fabric attaching to the boards but does make sense.
