I am going to hand quilt the top I'm working on. I have heard that some battings are difficult to pull the needle through. Does anyone have a favorite batting? If so, what is it? This will be a king-sized quilt. Thanks.

Here's a link that will give plenty of insight on the ease of hand quilting different brands and types of batting. http://www.quiltersbee.com/qbfabtip.htm I don't use poly batting at all because of the melting issue and seldom use anything with a poly scrim for the same reason, but I only hand quilt wall quilts.

Hi,
Over the years (40) Ihave used every kind of batting. In the beginning all that was available was that very puffy polyester. I most recently purchased one of the new batts made from Bamboo. It is very thin and seems to quilt beautifully. It was a little pricey but I purchased a queen size batt and will cut it up to make several wall hangings and at least on bed size quilt probably twin size. JoAnn's carries them and the next time I will use my %40 off coupon. I am a handquilter so I make sure any batt I use is easy to needle.
I have noticed that batts are getting bigger. I think since so many people now long arm larger batts are necessary as well as the fact that newer mattresses seem to be so much deeper. At least we are getting more batting for our money.

Thanks to each of you ladies!!! You are wonderful. I have not actually done much hand quilting (just a pratice piece) but for this size quilt I didn't want to make my job harder than it needed to be. Quilting should be fun, not work. I am going to make notes of all of your suggestions. Thank you.

I like the 80/20 Hobbs but also use the Warm & Natural for my hand quilting. Sometimes even a tighter woven fabric will make it a little more difficult to load many stitches on the needle. (if you're wanting to practice, try doing a preprinted panel or something that doesn't have any seams to cross)
