What do they do with the quilt that they decide are "unnacceptable"? I would hate to think that someone's hard work and labor of love would be thrown away. Do the give them to another charity that isn't so strict on construction?
I would hope so, does any one know??
I don't know what they do with the "rejects". It isn't so much that they are strict, if you read their website, it is because of the child's sensitive skin and the fact that monofilament thread melts in the laundry. If you have never had chemo you don't know how sensitive the skin is. They are just looking out for the welfare and health of the children. Check out the website if you never have. Just google quilts for kids.
I just sent an email to a Quilt for Kids coordinator in Texas asking her what they do with rejects. This is her reply:
"...no quilts are rejected unless they are just 'way out there'. They are found a home if they are not up to hospital standards...maybe at a local women's shelter/crisis center...maybe to a child at Head Start...maybe to an abused child thru the proper agency. It sounds like the person might have used an invisible thread...that is the only thread that is "not allowed" on our quilts that go to the hospitals. That thread melts at high temps...so if a quilt is washed & dried in a hospital setting it may melt & ruin that child's quilt. We certainly wouldn't want that to happen." She also stated they could not use Fleece in the hospital quilts.

I hope this helps.

I made the quilt with the fabric that was provided. The front was pieced according to their directions. The back was one piece of provided fabric. The batting was a low loft batting. I can't remember if it was a poly or cotton. But I do remember it was low loft. The quilting thread was 100% cotton. I used a large stippling stitch. There were no large areas that weren't quilted. The binding was done with the backing piece. It was stitch into place with a large decorative stitch, about 4mm. When returned the quilt I included my shipping label, quilt instructions and all paperwork that was included. I also registered my quilt online. Not sure what else I could of done. Thought I had followed the instructions correctly. Oh and I had it back inthe mail within 2weeks.

I'm glad they get thousands of quilts but they have become too big for me. When I send a quilt to Lisa in Ohio I get immediate feedback & it feels good!

when you received your kit there were instructions included to register your quilt, if you did that you can then go in and check to see if your quilt has been given to a child or not. with thousands of quilts being made and sent in they really can not contact each person and acknowledge the reciept. if you are concerned about it being received in the first place you should send it with delivery confirmation.
