I agree that Quick Quilts is perfect for beginners.
But as you advance a little, I love Quiltmaker and McCalls.
Like the other lady said, there is so much advertising anymore. There are a lot of free online patterns, such as t his site.

If you decide on getting different magazines, check the publisher. After a while you will get duplicates if you get them from the same publisher. I was surprised.
I stopped all subscriptions recently and only pick up the odds and ends now when I see a magazine in a store that I can't live without. Even then, I rip out the patterns I want to keep and put them in a binder. If there is nothing I want to keep, I take them to work and pass them on.

Recommend you go to a bookstore or newsstand and take a look at all the different magazines. Buy a couple that appeal most to you. Also check out their online sites, that can give you a good preview of what each offers. My Fav are BHG American Patchwork & Quilting and McCalls Quilting. Love the Australian mags too.
