I used the square in a square for blocks for a Arkansas Razorback quilt and worked great!

That's what I had my DD do with University Miami fabric for her BFF, We also embroidered blocks with UM in orange and green and alternated rows with purchased fabric and embroidered blocks.

Cut feature teams on piont in larger size, 8" to 15" "frame each center with team coordinating color. Use sashing in black or burgandy to frame each block. Will make for a stunning quilt. I do a lot of sports themes. Works great for multiple feature teams

Another style is a modified log cabin, again with center of block large to see feature team or mascot. For guys instead of using small fabric I like to use larger pieces. For log cabin I would cut logs 2".

Good Luck in what ever design you choose and have fun doing it.

A D9P might be good, with the school fabric in the corners.
