Default quilt shops in capital district NYS

Hi friends,

I used to live in Schenectady, and then we lived in Budapest, Hungary for 12 years. We have now returned to the States. I noticed that the shops I would visit are no longer there. What shops in the area do you recommend? I will need to take a friend shopping there to choose fabrics of her choice. Thanks for the recommendations!

Sadly the pickens are mighty slim in the immediate CD.

There is Log Cabin in Ravena, small shop with not a real big selection. Some very cute wool kits

There is Joyful quilter in Glenville. Also a very small shop. I have never found anything there.

The best selection is at Gloversville Sewing Center in Gloversville. They do have a satellite shop in Saratoga but the selection of fabrics is a fraction of what is in Gloversville:

Just across the border in Massachusetts is Karen's quilting Corner but I have never been to her shop so can't say

Another I haven't been to but want to is Quiltbug in Schenectady (they used to be out in Mariaville)

If you are back in the area and want to take a road trip there is Field Stone House. They are primarily show vendors so you have to call ahead to see if they will be open. Again, never been to their place but they bring bolts upon bolts of fabric to the shows.

And if you have a weekend, go out to the Finger lakes area and hit the Mennonite shops. You can't beat their prices. There is Ida's place in Pen Yan (I think her shop name is Golden Lane) Then there is a little Mennonite General store that also has a fabulous selection of fabrics. Sorry can't remember the name of that place. But this is a good 3 to 4 hours west of the CD.
