Do you think these two colors will make a nice Hunter's Star?

How much yardage do I need for a Hunter's Star queen size quilt?

You need 2 really contrast-y fabrics. since there is not a lot of purple in the butterfly print, your colors should work. How large a square are you planning on? If it's too small you will loose all your pretty butterflies!

Gramma B. I think you are going to lose your pattern of the butterflies with the hunters star block. what about something like a snow ball one? That way the butterflys would show up better. Or a different star block that has a bigger center that will show off the butterflies. I like to use the Amish Dahlia as a star block. I just make the center square 6 1/2" instead of doing it in pieces like the pattern says to do and don't applique the flower onto it. Or do a disappering 9 patch block with the butterflies as the focus fabric. You can find a lot of different patterns on quilterscache.com. A queen size quilt will take about 6 yards of fabric for the top and the same amt for the backing.

Here's what Quilt Pro came up with when I copied your fabrics into it. BTW--I have the butterfly fabric in the purple & green colorways. It's in my too pretty to cut pile right now--LOL.

It does have some contrast so it is a subtle pattern but I like it. Green, as another user suggested might make it too "in your face." I have a king size Hunter's Star quilt top in blue & white. It's one of the first tops I ever completed. I'll attach a picture of it, too so you can see how striking this simple design can be when done in high contrast dark/light.
