some other items that are good to have include:

    patterns
    books
    freezer paper
    heat n bond light
assortment of threads, including some bottom line thread and monofiliment
if she can paper piece or wants to learn, she'll need an add-a-quarater ruler
scissors - small pair and a larger pair; snips
supply of chocolate to keep close by

just ideas for 'extras" that are great to have on hand!

How about a nice organizer tote to carry all of it?

How about a subscription to McCall's Quick Quilts or some other magazine with easy beginner quilt patterns? A nice source of project ideas every month! :-D

Help her get organized early. Clear plastic boxes for storage. AND extra needles for that new machine.

a 12and a half inch square ruler! Great for when the 6x24 is too bulky and for squaring up blocks!

Thanks for all the great ideas gang!!! I'm just now getting to read some messages here. It has been a wild, insane and crazy week at work and when I got home from work yesterday I CRASHED!!! I had to get up early this morning to teach my class again, so I intend to have a nice loonnnnng sleep in tomorrow morning!

I am going to make a list for her of all your great ideas along with ones I had told her about already.

geeez.. I never thought of more fabric ;) Great suggestion!! I also realize that yes CHOCOLATE is mandatory for sewing and quilting. ooh and red wine!!!!

My friend, Lesley, who I am making this list up for to give to her fiancee gave me a $25 gift certificate from Fabricville as a little thank you to get her back into the sewing/quilting world. I plan to put that certificate to good use.. hmmm what do you think... Fabric??? :)
