I want to make a quilt for a small child using a fabric from Joanns called kittens on the beach. It is just a panel depicting kittens lounging in beach chairs, etc. What kind of quilt design would you use? I did one and just machine quilted squares but am not happy with it. Also, I'm fairly new at this and need something simple.

Thanks

Hi, I know exactly which one you mean, it is adorable! How about fussy cutting it and surrounding each with an ocean effect fabric? or just some of the primary colors in the umbrellas.

I really wanted to keep it one piece. It's a piece of fabric about 23x23 and I'm bordering it with a bright red tiny polka dot fabric. I made a tote bag out of the fabric and just had this left over.

Pinwheel blocks alternating with the panel blocks?
1/4 Square trinagles? A simple 9 patch block?

The quilt design could be a wavy effect like the waves...

I would be looking for other beachy themed fabrics. Beach balls, pail and shovel, sandcastle. and use that for the sashing. Then boarder in the color you most want to bring out in the quilt. Then you could quilt around the silouttes of the cats in the loungers, and the beachy items.

I'm knew so this is purely just a thought.

I thought about the outline quilting. I also like Charlene's idea of wave like stitching.

Thanks to both of you.

You might even work a shell pattern in now and then or dolphins or fish just to add a little extra---maybe in the corners. Yeah, fish---cat's like fish.
