Does "Quilts for Kids" organization send you kits? Do you quilt them yourself or have them machine quilted? Also, I heard that you have to also donate one of your own quilts in order to participate. Can someone clarify? Thanks

I just got a kit from them yesterday, and requested literature for a chapter here.

1227 Granny,QFK will send you (1) quilt kit. They suggest that you make at least one kit from your own fabrics/stash to return with the kit quilt, but it's not mandatory. For shipping purposes, it makes sense because two quilts can easily fit into a Priority Mail box to send back to them.

The three quilts in my avatar went to QFK. The dark blue/orange one is the kit they sent me (it has fish on it). The other two were made from my scrap stash.

You machine quilt them yourself simply with stitch-in-the-ditch. You sew around the squares and then stitch an X in each square. That's the simplest way. You can get as fancy as you like with machine quilting if you want. You do not HAVE to donate any of your own quilts, it is only a suggestion. You do what you can or what you want.

Please see my posts on Pages 4 and 5 of this thread, both posted on 4/22- they may answer a lot of your questions. Also, don't hesitate to call them. All the girls are very sweet.
