I would add piece of study cardboard or plastic inside the pin cushion on the machine side. Some of our grandmothers really did a number on their machines using something tied on the cross bar for a pin cushion. My machines may be vintage, but they don't need any more scratches than they get with normal use.

That being said, I do like this idea.

Better face it. If you sew at all, no matter what contraption you have, a pin or needle will find its way onto the floor. It is the nature of the beast. ;)

You're right about the floor! I was really hoping to keep them off the table. I pull the pins out so fast and drop them on the table as I go then when I finish the seam, my elbows rest on top of the pins that are on the table  , then off to the floor they go!

Agreed. I have gotten into a habit of telling people (other than my family) to watch where they step when they come into my room because of pins ending up on the floor. Even when I have attempted to clean up the pins somehow my brother or mom or somebody else manages to find one...with their feet. I've given up on trying to locate every single pin because I know its impossible! lol

I have one of these on all my machines , I can just pop them in as I sew and it's alway's in the same place lol, so i can't miss. Well most of the time, they still seem to like the floor best but I just pick them up with my magnet on a stick, my hips do not like me going on the floor and won't let me up again. :)

I like this idea, but worry that the pins might scratch through to the machine if there was not a plastic insert to stop it. I first saw the idea on the Martha Stewart show and she had a pattern for one.
