I have a friend that this happened to, and she wrote to the magazine and they sent her the missing pull out. I know it has been a while since the magazine was published, but it never hurts to try!

It does look like the block in the free tote pattern at animaquilts.com. Using the flying geese and the diagonal piece as one corner of a 4patch or 2 corners of a 4 patch design in the center of the quilt. with sashing between the blocks which looks like plaid cut to make the sashing strips.
I draw these on graph paper and decide what the size I want my blocks to be and add 1/4" This pattern could be made with HST's and also strips or a combination of both.
Wish I had the ability to post a diagram.. Jan in VA.and some of the others do such a good job showing how to make blocks like these
