I Googled "River themed baby quilts". Lots of images and links and I agree with canuckninepatch. the one with the Bargello was what I would go with. My cousin twice removed had twin boys; River and Timber.

I took this photo a couple years ago, near my home, but you are welcome to use it for inspiration. It is a river, taken at sunset. If you use it, I would love to see what you come up with.

I would probably look for a fabric panel that had a river in it, and built from there.

I made this quilt and think it would make a darling baby quilt.
Elise, can I ask if the fish are appliqued?

I found this panel on Ebay -- It says it is a pond, but it also looks like a river to me! I think it is cute and perfect for a quilt for a little baby. You could do interpretations of other river scenes as he grows up. I'm tempted to get one of these for myself for a future quick baby gift...just add some cute borders.

Some of the suggestions are quite good, but this one with the mice on a river is absolutely the very best for a baby!

I made a quilt for my nephew using the "River Trees" pattern. Mine was all blue scraps for the rivers and green scraps for the trees. Don't have a photo close at hand but someone on the board did the pattern in Christmas colors. You can get the idea from that http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t230754.html
