Is there an "official" size for a lap quilt? I have made several and just made them any size that seemed right, but I wonder if there is an specific size.

I always just thought that anything smaller than a twin. that isn't going to be used as a wall hanging, was a lap quilt.

Maybe it depends on the size of the lap?

The one I'm working on now is 50x60. Last time I was at Wal-mart I checked out the bedding dept. All the throws they have were that size. So thats what I went by.

I think it's up to you, and can depend on size of quilt blocks. My current WIP is 52 square.

For the one I'm using now, the size was where I ran out of material. I've added a border, binding, and calling it done. No one will know I really wanted it bigger.

I used my own lap for a test, and if my derriere will be covered, the recipient's will be too.

Thanks, you girls are great. Love the humor. So I guess it really doesn't matter.

It only matters if you are making it for a person in a wheelchair. My husbands has to longer than most because of his long legs, but I have to tuck it tight to his little behind! lol lol

Some for wheelchairs have to be shorter.
