I had a fancy metal stilleto - and it was a nuisance to use.

I've just started using a round wooden toothpick for holding pieces as I'm feeding them through the sewing machine.

They work great!

Hi I'm new here at posting but have been lurking for a while. Saw your suggestion about toothpicks, I use orange sticks that you use to push back your cuticles when you do your nails. It has a pointy end and an angled end and they don't cost very much.

Good post. I buy a package of those skewers for BBQ and then cut them in half and glue a pretty glass bead on on end. It works great, is verrrrrrrrrrry cheap and is great to give to friends at retreats and classes. When you buy the beads, make sure the holes are smaller so you don't have to use so much glue. Thanks for posting this.

I also use wooden skewers from the grocery store. My 1 dollar bag has lasted for years.

The Chinese restaurant I go to uses pointed wooden chopsticks, these also work great

I use a Bamboo skewer to spear a small piece of bread caught in the toaster.

I use short bamboo skewers. There is probably 50 in the bag. Lasts a long time.
