We have had a post for that on here. I don't remember if it was a link to another site or if one of our members showed us how they did it. There is a picture in the tutorial, just following that remark. It seems to show that you split the difference in the thickness of the batting, so the batting overlaps, but remains a consistent thickness.

Hi, Im working on my FIRST and using a book from Beth Donaldson called Block by Block. The instructions are very clear and so far so good! If you will google QAYG or quilt as you go, you will get several different sites with instructions, all different so you can pick and choose, but the Block by Block technique is only in that book. :D

Here's a picture of one I taught many years ago for beginners. I started with the stars at the top and worked my way down. Maybe it will give you some ideas.
