I hang my mats on a nail in the wall. I put my rulers either in a wooden holder I bought for them or on a nail in the wall.

www.joanns.com sells a June Tailor "Rule your Rulers" that will allow you to attached your rulers to and hang in your closet. It is a circular hanger and is on sale now for $2.99. I have 4 of them in my closet to hold all of my rulers for easy access. Also, I bought an Omnigrid mat storage that is similar to a portfolio case and this holds my mat in a zipper compartment with other compartments to hold my rotary cutter, scissors, etc. I also use this Omnigrid to take my mat and accessories with me to classes.

I'm glad you asked this. I didn't know about the warping if you stand mats on end, which I have been doing.

I have two grids to set my rulers in and the mat generally lives on the sewing table.

My large mat stands between the wall and my cutting table. I have the large, circular rings that open (used them many years ago to hold floss on little plastic cards when I was doing cross stitch.) I open them and hang my rulers on them and then hang them in my sewing closet. Works perfectly.

My Mat is always on my cutting table. I have been looking for someway to store my rulers over my cutting table, I don't like the ones that sit on the table. While at the Road2Ca this past week I found the ruler holder that can sit down or be mounted on the wall and it also holds the big square rulers in the back. I love it. Here is the link, he has all sizes. Mine was $39, but if you have a handy DH, he could make you one.

How creative, I love your idea of making your own storage for your rulers.
My huge mat is alaways on my cutting table the smaller mats & most used rulers are in a office letter divdiver on my cutting table, the rest of the rulers & templates hang inside my fabric closet.
