I dream quilt patterns also, but never remember enough to be able to attempt a sketch.

That's what I was going to advise. I keep a clip board of graft paper and colored pencils beside me on the sofa table and use it when I'm trying to draft a pattern. Just assign each square on the paper a measurement and stay to scale as your pattern develops.

Just learning this new web site. I think your idea is great. I would make the heart all one color, bright red or mostly red, small flowered and red and white check for the plain pieces or if using flowers, make the plain pieces match a color from the flowers for a plain joining.
