I don't post here much but do spend my Sunday reading all the posts here. Today must be my lucky day tho as I just read SheriR's post on Grandma's closet. I have 2 of these hexagon quilts my mother made I'm guessing back in the 30s or early 40 but she has just the tops. One is made with the larger hexagons & the other is made with the small ones. My Granddaughter has asked for these2 quilts but I have been putting off finishing them up since I can't decide how to finish up the sides---borders or what. I don't want to do hexagons but how do I do the backing & borders. My mom hand quilted both of these & I would like to finish them up by hand also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would love to see pictures of them both. You say your mother has already hand quilted them? I think I'm going to finish this with white hexagon pieces to square it up and then a very small border of white and a binding of a mustard color. I'll either machine free motion the orange peel pattern inside each hexi or straight stitch just inside each one OR...hire out hand quilting.
I'm certainly not the expert. But hope this helps.
