Default Scrappy pattern

I have a new little grandson and I want to make a scrappy quilt that is not a childish pattern. I am elderly and I won't be around when he is an adult and I want him to have a quilt to remember me by. I want an adult pattern. I have many quilts in my home but I want to make one especially for him as I have done for all my other grandchildren. I appreciate any and all suggestions.

Why not choose your favorite pattern and use masculine colors of scraps?

My process when I can't decide what to do is look at every single book I have, go to the library for more, visit Pinterest and find things that appeal to me.

What kinds of quilts do you like to make? What is your very favorite quilt that you've ever made? Make another of those!

You are so sweet. Good luck.

If you are aiming to make him a quilt he will appreciate as an adult, then gearing it to his current interests, likes, etc. won't work, as those will most likely change, and it will then not be appropriate for him as an adult. Since it's impossible to predict what he will like as an adult, then I agree with the other suggestions. Make the pattern one you like and think most men would like, too. Personalize either the front or the back of the quilt with his and your names and the date you finish the quilt. He will probably love that you made it in advance just for him and cherish it no matter what he thinks of the specific pattern or colors.

Bonnie's quilts from recycled men's shirts would be a good choice. The fabrics would be very manly yet also appropriate for a young boy. Even better if you happen to have shirts from family members to include in the quilt.

You could make a scrappy Jacob's Ladder. I made this for a man and used warm toned fabric scraps.

I used Creative Grid ruler to make the Cat's Cradle. I made it very scrappy and worked up quickly. Will show a picture when I get it back from the long arm quilter.

Brilliant idea QuiltsRfun! Any shirts from grandfather, father, brothers, uncles?
