Default In search of log cabin ideas

I am looking for the log cabin quilt where there's a biggish sized square (maybe 4") in a corner and 2 or 3 legs so the blocks finish at about 10 inches when put together in the quilt. I've seen some posted recently but cannot find pictures now.

My idea is to do a patriotic quilt like this for my brother and sister.

Sounds like you want to make a half log cabin block, like what's pictured in the link Gay gave you. But that one has many more rounds than what you say you want. You can get some graph paper and draw it up exactly how you'd like it, and follow that for your pattern. Easy.

Gay& Justabitcrazy;

That is sort of what I'm looking for but not just quite it. Thanks for the suggestions to draft it via graph paper. I think I'm going to go that route. But I'll also check Pinterest.

This one I gave Jim for Christmas a few years back. The center square was 3 1/2 inches cut. I do not remember what the log sizes were, but I can look if you are interested.

Reading your post, I get the idea that you may be talking about a 1/2 log cabin square. If so, here's a link to a pattern http://www.equilters.com/library/logcabin/halflog1.htm

BKay, That is the pattern. Thank you.

Thanks to all who replied. I must post this disclaimer. When I saw the pattern on here, I was in severe chronic pain (remedied since) plus on pain killers so didn't bookmark the thread. Now that I feel better and am not on painkillers, I wish to begin the process of tackling this quilt by beginning with some starter blocks to find out which type I like best and/or think look better when put together. Thanks again. Love this board for asking questions and getting awesome replies.

Anne, That is a lovely log cabin. It is in the colorway I am thinking of using but not quite the correct pattern. Seeing this makes me question whether the "center" square will be red or blue. Thanks for the ideas and inspiration.

Are you thinking of the MSQC block summer camp?

No but thank you.

It is the half log cabin block that BKay mentioned that I was thinking of. I knew someone on here would know.
