I like Kona too, but last Fall I was surprised to find that Kona makes more than one black. We were visiting a QS out of town and when I asked for Kona Black, she showed me two different bolts. The really rich black was running $14.94 compared to the "other" black which was under $10.00. :|

Blank Quilting also makes a TRUE black cotton, it is a really nice quality cotton and it is true black a they do not mix all the colours together to get black as a lot of the manufacturers do when it is time to make black dye. It is a deeper black then Michael Miller and I think it is softer then the Kona

That's a new brand to me, thank you for bringing it up. I may have to order a bit to see how it goes. I really don't like Kona precisely because it is so coarse, so switching to MM was a fantastic move for me. I'll have to check out Blank Quilting next!

I use Kona.. It's a beautiful black. Also it is easy to find.. I have to order Michael Miller, which I love, but I hate to order, so I go for the Kona.

Kona black does feel rather coarse compared to quilting cottons, but it's the best I've found. Always looks sharp in quilts.
