I just use my finger and rub it around in small circles. The batting comes together in a little ball.

I have an olfa self healing. I take some water with a drop of dish soap and a vegetable brush. I put a towel under the board on the dining room table. I go over the mat scrubbing lightly, then I go over it again with clear water, I then go over it with a soft cloth. I leave till dry and then go over it with a quilting board smother

I use a wet or dry Magic Eraser....works wonderfully....and you will be surprised at the amount of dirt is on their too, my eraser turned very brown.....but cleaned my mat beautifully....

I just read lately that an eraser will do the job. Maybe try and see...

At the art supply store, they sell little squares of crepe rubber - known as frisket cleaners or frisket pickups. They pull fibers out of cutting mats very nicely.
