I love Thread Heaven, too. Or beeswax.
I sew the front on by machine, then turn it and sew it by hand to the back using a single strand of Bottom Line and a very small stitch.
It usually takes several evenings to hand-finish the binding on the back, but I know it's on there to stay. :D I'm not very skilled at piecing and only intermediate in FMQ skills - but this is the one thing I do pretty well.
