I have had fabric and a Kaffe Fassett pattern for quite a while and am holding back on starting it because I am not sure if sewing diamond shapes is difficult. Do you have to start and stop a quarter of an inch from the end of the shape? Encouragement and information needed...
Thanks so much.

Is this his Sunflower quilt - I think he called it Red Diamonds?

I made this quilt ages ago. There are no Y seams in this quilt as you're sewing the diamonds into rows (as if the blocks were on point).

You DO have to be careful of bias edges, and of lining up the pieces correctly so when you unfold them, they're aligned properly. It's the same rules as when sewing triangles (not 45 degrees) together...you have to offset your seams.

(the same way when joining strips for binding...you want a nice straight edge on the top and bottom)

eta: most of the tutorials out there seem to be about sewing diamonds into a LeMoyne star.
Here's one that's sewing them into strips:

Thanks, MTS; it's actually in the Simple Shapes Spectacular Quilts book and is the one that looks like a cathedral floor in grays and golds. The link that you sent me is perfect; thanks so much.

Cut on the Bias? Starch it. Starch it more. Starch it till it feels like cardboard!! And of course iron it.

St. Marks?
The picture in the link showing the overlap was terrific.

Have fun making it. Hope you post pictures when you're done.
