We have a screen house tent and I sew outside all summer long. My husband built a double wide picnic table which is
great for sandwiching quilts and designing. We also have a double swing in the screen house which is wonderful for
hand quilting and embroidering. I use an outdoor extension cord as the tent is portable and has no electricity. To me,
sewing outdoors, with the birds singing is a vacation every day - and Heaven on Earth.

sewing outside
I do handwork outside as much as the weather allows and am planning to repaint our shed this summer and turn it into a summer sewing room. I often take my machine outside and sew on the picnic table. Works for me. (But I still dream of having a sewing retreat outside that I can just leave set up for the summer!)

I've taken quilts outside to hand quilt, so I could keep an eye on the grandchild. I also sewed with 2 others pool-side at my sisters' home. The gorgeous weather and stunning view were inspiring, and we had such fun joking about our "sweat shop."

I have a sweet deck out front and I have my table to sew on or cut on. The only problem I have is that I am not meant to do this because the minute I sit down with my rotary cutter, scissors and fabric a big wind comes along and I spend the rest of the day picking up little squares, half square triangles or quarter square triangles from everyone's yard! I have come to the conclusion that embroidery, binding and planning are the best for outside. Outside hand work is the most pleasurable time for me. And a glass of wine! Enjoy! Edie

My neighbors are in their late 60's, and have a leather repair business, and they do all of their work on treadle machines...every spring they haul those heavy old machines out onto their porch and work out there. I always thought it would be an awesome picture done in sepia or black and white! They are lovely people and enjoy the fresh air.

I always wonder what is the difference of taking a machine to a class in a building and just setting it up on a table on my patio. In the shade of course. I plan on trying it with my little Jamone Gold
