I am not particular. I have aurafil and various other brands. My machines are not fussy and I use a lot of coats & Clark I know it ends up being more expensive but at the rate I quilt it doesn't seem
to hurt my budget.

I prefer polyester thread and use either Superior So Fine #50, Connecting Threads Essential Pro Poly, or occasionally, C&C Dual Duty Plus. The only poly thread I don't care for is Guttermann.
I use vintage machines and they're not at all fussy about thread.

It's not always marked on the thread spool. Usually you can Google a thread and find out more about it that way. Just to make it more confusing, there are different systems for calculating thread weight. Which means that one 60wt thread is not necessarily exactly the same as another 60wt thread.

I am not a thread purist either but usually piece with Aruifil 50wt. in shades of grey. and quilt with different wts. of Superior depending on the project and look I want.
