I ship quilts all the time to family members through USPS. I always get a tracking number on the package and a return receipt requested. That way they have to sign for the package. The post office is much more careful with things that having a tracking number or need a receipt signed. I've been fortunate and have not ever had a package get lost.

Glad that it all worked out so well for you! Now, what I'm curious about is that with all the compression, how were they for wrinkles/creases? And after how many hours?

I always use the USPS and never UPS, Ups tends to leave stuff out of doors in the snow or rain, even when they have instructions not to.

Weight would be the same - but sometimes shipping rates are based upon the dimensions of the box as well. This would be a great solution for packing them in a suitcase to carry along.

My friend uses the vacuum bags all the time. Nice to know you can buy them at the dollar store.

You can always buy insurance from the post office also but it is not cheap. UPS gives free insurance. I have gotten some packages from UPS that look like they were ran over with a truck.
