Hello Everyone,

I am making a quilt with a fleece backing, it will be a queen size or hopefully a king size.

How do I put the back together? Where do I put the seams? Do I do 1 seam down the middle of it or horizontal?

I will be interested to hear the answers to your question. Thanks for asking it. I use fleece for backing but have only used it on lap quilts and kids quilts less than 59" wide. That's the width of the fleece I buy so I haven't had to sew seams.

Traditionally quilt backs if pieced, were done in 3 vertical segments. Guess what....backing a quilt with fleece or Minky isn't traditional so piece your back the most convenient way. Your quilt, your rules.

I try never to have a seam down the middle or across the the backing. Either 3 even sections, the middle large with 2 smaller side sections or one large section off set by a small section either right or left. I also try to work my label into the seams of the backing.

I use Minkee and Fleece all the time for backing. I sew a 5/8 to 3/4 inch seam, then I open up the seam and sew down both sides. There is no way to press this open and you can't pin it. It is very bulky if you don't sew it "flat." You can even make it a larger seam if you want. I use "lengthwise" because you want the "stretch" part of the fabric going across your frame. Don't try to overquilt, and make sure the nap goes in the same direction.
