    Default Side Cutter Attachment

I have seen these attachments advertised but don't really know anything about them. Does anyone use this device and where/why would you? Is it like a serger in that the fabric is cut away from your stitching as you sew? I am trying to figure out if this is something worth buying. Thanks to anyone in the know who can elaborate on this item.

edited: Why did I not think to check youtube? I am in the process of seeing how to use this foot there. Still, I wonder how many of you use this and for what kind of projects? And is there a difference between this and I think what is called a "side cutter foot" that looks different that this attachment.

I would think it would turn your sewing machine into a sort of serger too. Please post what you discover.

It does the same thing as and works like a serger. I have one that came with my machine, used a time or two. Don't care for it.

Yes, I do think it must sort of turn your regular machine into a serger from the sounds and looks of it. Eva Knight, why did you not care for it .... did it not work or just not do what you hoped it would do or was it too hard to work with? Still trying to figure out what the difference is between the two versions I have seen.

I have one for my singer looks like a kissing cousin to the walking foot. Have never tried it. Guess I should get it put and see if it is easier than what I do now.

I never liked it. It tries to imitate what a serger does, but is not nearly as effective as a serger. It cuts the edge right before you zigzag over it. If I needed to zigzag over seams on my sewing machine I would simply add it as a separate step.
