I was researching online for beginner sewing machines with quilting options. I looked at several Brother, Janome, and Singer models. (I have to say that the sheer quantity of sewing machines out there is dizzying!) I was wondering if anyone owned a Janome AQS 2009 and would like to offer their thoughts on it? Thank you. :)

I just ordered one from Kens Sewing machine. My friend has it and loves it. I have a big Janome and need a small one for when I go places to sew.

Thanks for the reply. I found an authorized dealer (about 25 miles from where I live). I'm going to go there and try out their sewing machines. They have the one I'm interested in and lots of others. :D

That's the best thing to do. It's always best if you can try them out before buying.

I have the AQS 2009. Bought it about 6 months ago or so and have made a couple of quilts and several purses with it. It is a nice little machine. The only problem I've had with it is going over double thick batting. I can hear the machine chug a little. But that doesn't happen too oftem so it's not a regular occurance. Also it doesn't come with any quilting feet so you will have to buy a walking foot if you SITD. Also, the light on it is not very bright.

I love that it has u/d needle, stitch speed control, is easy to clean, and is pretty much intuitive. Also, if you need any accessories it fits same as the Gems. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. Overall I am very satisfied with it.

This is very helpful! Thank you! :D If I like the way it sews, this will be my portable. I was planning on buying accessories for travel anyway. So, it's no biggie to add the walking foot (or any other feet if necessary).
