I love Eleanor Burns flying geese method, but I don't have enough of the larger pieces of fabric and it's no longer made. I have plenty of triangles that I think are big enough, but I'm drawing a blank on how to put them together.

Finished geese are to be 4x8. Colors are orange center and yellow background.

I have plenty of orange yardage and a bunch of yellow triangles (5 1/4 each leg).

Would someone please help me so I don't waste my triangles?

I feel like a real idiot having to ask, and I thank you all for using your brains on my behalf!

Could you make smaller flying geese? EB has different sizes.

Unfortunately not. These are for the last 6 blocks of a king size quilt and the triangles are all that I have left. If I can't make them work, and I really think I can, I will have to rearrange the blocks I have and come up with something that will pass for borders. Grrr. This is what I get for setting a UFO aside while I moved!

Cut triangles from the orange fabric the same size as the yellow triangles. Make half square triangles and sew two of them together to form a flying geese block. You will have a seam down the middle but it probably won't show once the quilt is quilted. Uh Oh, just did the math and your half square triangles are going to be about 1/4 inch short to make a flying geese block at 4 x 8 finished size. Maybe if you play around with seams you could fudge it. I'd try on some scraps first to see if it will work.

If you have an Easy Angle ruler you can cut your trianles from a 4.5 " strip. I cut a sample triangle from a smaller piece: 4.5 x 5" piece will be just right for ONE yellow triangle finishing 4" high.Also see the following site; scroll down the page to the "printer friendly" button to get a PDF

You could do this without a special ruler, too, just remember that starting with a 4,5" high piece (from your yellows the upper point (dog ear)is already cut off and in the other 5"leg it is not cut,

I got it! Thank you all for your quick replies. I woke up this morning with an idea that actually worked. Traced a template from my EB FG ruler. Used a piece of cardboard to cut a template the size of the end triangle, then trimmed 1/4" seam allowance from the long side. Put the template on the corner of the orange rectangle, then butted up the long side of the fabric triangle. Sewed a quarter inch seam and trimmed the orange fabric. Repeat on the other end. Trim using the EB ruler. It worked!

Again, thank you for your good ideas. It really helps to have people who understand to talk a problem out with.

Go to YouTube and look up Dutchman's Puzzle, easy way to make flying geese. You don't even need EB's template/ruler!
