Yes, I used my walking foot to quilt the "tilted" square and FMQ the swirl in the center. I LOVE Jennifer23's picture and idea for quilting the reverse on each alternate square. My problem was I quilted the swirl in the center first on the whole quilt. Once I did that I realized it flattened out the center and so if I quilted around the square too it would be to much quilting. I was NOT going to rip out all those swirls :-) Had I seen something like Jennifer proposed I would have probably gone that route. I decided on the tilted square because it met the requirement of quilting in the square, but not so much quilting that it flattened the whole block down.

I would just do a diagonal grid that connects the center squares.

It would be comparatively easy to do.

I would do an echo around the smaller square.

I would do something 'swirly' in the centers to contrast with the linear blocks. If you feel it needs more than that, perhaps a curvy line in the middle of the outer square. I might do it a bit off center - closer to the inner square. I would use either a variegated blue thread or use 2 thread colors, a dark on the light blue sections and a dark blue on the lighter sections. Please post when done so we can see what you decided to do.

I think I would do a simple diagonal grid design over the top. Try a design on plastic to see how you like it.

I second the diagonal grid. Seems to be my new "go to" and I am liking the end results. Thinking too, it work well with your Square in a square pattern.
