Does anyone own one? How do you use it?

I bought the contents of a ladies sewing room, and this was included in the deal. I have never seen one before and was wondering if it was a useful tool? After I googled it, discovered it can be used for pressing shirts, and putting the crease in pants and jeans. Is it too much heat for quilting? I don't do applique, and I wonder if it would work for that.
