After reading all the stories about Featherwights etc., I decided to get mom's old machine out and see what it was. It is a Singer 301, has all parts and the manual. I know it was purchased in 1953 or 1954. According to the internet it is the big sister of a Featherweight. It weighs 15 lbs. vs 11 lbs. for a featherwight. My husband cleaned and oiled it and it worked beautifully.

the 301 is very comparable to the 221...

Good move getting it up and running...

I got rid of my FW in favor of my 301. Absolutely love it. It's a better machine in my opinion!

Awesome! I've been looking for a 301. How wonderful that it was your mom's machine.

You'll love your 301. It's the machine I learned to sew on. and is still going strong. My Mom still has the machine and I recently gave it a good cleaning and oiling. Sews like a dream.
