Walmart has a nice variety of flat sheets. They look just like the sets..... in little cloth drawstring bags. Paid $11 for a queen.

Try overstock.com. they have odd pieces, sometimes solids colors in 250 to 300 thread counts. Mostly what I do, I buy the sets, don't seem to wear out the top sheets, so use them when I can for backing. I like to use the ones I have used and washed a lot as they are softer and easier to quilt. But I have used new ones occasionally but find the denser thread counts are hard to quilt.

I usually purchase sheets, singly, from catalogs that come to me in the mail. The Company Store, among others, sells sheets. I usually buy one king size fitted sheet and two twin size duvet covers and unless I buy from a catalog, I never have any sheets that match or look nice. And since we don't need the top flat sheet, I just hate to buy it. We don't have quilts on our bed, I have them hanging around the house.

You can find single sheets at Kohl's Dept. stores if you have one in your area. They are pretty reasonable on prices and most of the time they are on sale anyway. And they are good quality, so if you are using them as quilt backs they work great!.
