Maybe you could go to local sewing machine dealer and ask to try one on one of their demo machines? Take a little fabric "sandwich" with you to practice on....most dealers are more than happy to let you try their machines and accessories.

I like it but it took a little practice.

I have never used one. I use my walking foot and go a bit slower than sewing a seam and it works just fine. I think you have to make the decision that is best for you.

Is there an actually DITH foot or is it a walking foot?

They are 2 different things, unless you purchase the attachment for the walking foot. The SITD foot resembes the 1/4" foot but with the guide in the center of the presser foot instead of along the side. Go to Janome's website and look for that foot. They have a good picture of it. I purchased the attachment because I wanted the benefits of both the walking foot and SITD on kids' quilts. Makes it go so much faster and more accurate.

But I do use it for other techniques and love it :D:D:D
I also went back to the walking foot. The foot kept digging in the corners making it hard to turn with ease.

You can buy a walking foot for your Janome which has a SITD attachment to it - I have one myself!

I just saw a Janome 1/4 inch foot with two attachments that work with the foot. One is for 1/4 inch edge of foot for making accurate seams and the other for doing stitch-in-the-ditch. I will check it out at the next quilt show at the Janome booth. so I don't know the price. I do find that the right foot helps greatly with what ever you are trying to do...
