I was looking for the size of a king size mattress and thought you might want to note the different sizes. I was checking because I wanted to put a cording around the edge of bed, then I'm going to allow extra for the hang over.

Nice to know the mattress sizes. I am working on a Queen size quilt for my bed with a good hang over and it measures 92X92 and seems just about right.

I make quilts for full and queen with good hang overs. If I am using on our bed I also make pillow covers. Just to cover the pillows, shams are a pain to put on everyday.
I am trying to make lap or one person lounging quilts now. Most I give away really don't want to use them for their beds.
Do you know a size that would be good for those?

Thanks for the information.
Another thing that we need to take into consideration ... some of the pillow top mattress' can affect the 'drop' size we want. So if possible, measure the bed you are planning the quilt for.

Be aware that doesn't take into account the amount of bedding you normally have underneath the quilt. I made a quilt for a friend that uses a down comforter in the winter and the quilt was too small!

I would like to make a " surprise " quilt . However I am stumped on the size. I know that the mattress is a queen but it has a pillow top so now I am not sure of the measurements. Would anyone have a queen sized pillow top mattress and give me a rough estimate, I can always add a few more inches for good measure but I do not want to make it too short to begin with.
Thank you!!
