Thank you all for your suggestions. What seems to have worked. I adjusted the presser foot pressure to the recommended setting. I had not done this before, I was adjusting the fmq foot on the foot itself. I was not aware of the presser foot pressure button. Also I am using the automatic needle threader. Just adjusting the foot pressure does not work unless I use the automatic needle threader. I don't understand why it will only seem to work this way but machines are funny and have their own special needs.
