    Default Small Scraps

How small is too small to keep for scraps? I have some narrow stuff that I've been keeping, but I always wonder what I'll ever do with them.

Strip quilting would be a good idea.

You'll see that some quilters keep everything. Even the selvedges and make things out of those.

You do what works for you and the space you occupy. I cut left overs into 2 1/2" strips and add them to my strip pile. Everything else, I toss. Some people on here I've heard will pay S&H to get their hands on other's trash, so they can recycle it.

I keep longer narrow strips for log cabins. I like to use 1.5 inch width on one side and 1 inch width on the other... it creates a curve. Scraps are great for log cabins... so many different lengths can be used down to 1.5 inch.

Some folks keep them all. The really small scraps can be used as stuffing for pet beds. If 1.5 inches or wider, keep for string quilts. Yes, there are some QB members willing to pay S&H to "take them off your hands".

These are paper pieced log cabin blocks using 1" strips. The PP pattern is from QuiltersCache.

Misc bits and pieces paper pieced onto calculator tape.

Some of my strips are 1 inch wide. If you piece them together, it is like making a new piece of fabric. I have shown some examples below.

    Very pretty log cabin blocks.
Right now I am keeping almost all scraps, may not keep them all. If I don't want any, I will take them to Goodwill.
I am in the process of trying to use my scraps up. The joke is on me, impossible feat.

I'm saving the super-narrow ones (iike sliced off rotary cut) in a ziploc bag for a pincushion. When it's full I'll make the cushion and supplement with sand. Anything smaller than a 1" strip goes into a different ziploc and I plan to use it to line the bottom of Christmas gift bags instead of using tissue paper.

Oh have a thought for those who do miniatures. Don't throw away. If you want to pass them on just post and I know there are lots of us who use down to 1" or even 3/4".
