CRUMB QUILTERS!! I understand you!!!
#1
A few weeks back I was on the board looking at crumb quilts and thinking I would never have the patience to use those little pieces, guess what happened?? I bought a book called "Start With Scraps" by Carol E. Loessel from Clotilde and have not been able to control myself. at first I used the bigger pieces, sewing them together and then cutting the strips and adding them to somthing else, eventually ending up with some interesting angles and small pieces in the mix. I really loved the results. Now this has become an obsession. I have made "fabric" with christmas prints and have separated my scraps into clear boxes with kitchen scraps, baby, christmas and a misc. box. I can't seem to stop. I have lots of other things to do, but this is so satisfying that I am ignoring everything else. So far I have only made the fabric, need to get some square rulers to cut the stuff up and make somthing else out of it. Any ideas on the Christmas fabric, like a tree skirt?

Could you explain crumb fabric please? I seem to have a bag (large) of them and it is growing, must have something to do some form of scrap mating that happens when I leave the sewing room as the bag gets fuller every time I go back to my sewing room

To begin with you have to sort the fabric pieces, I sort by size and I know that others sort by color. As I said in my post I also sort the fabric into Christmas, baby etc. Then the pieces should be ironed and squared off so that they are ready to sew together. You just pick a piece and find another one that is about the same size and sew them together, square off if necessary and keep on going with another scrap piece. It's so much fun and makes me happy to use fabric that otherwise would have gone into the trash or given away to another fabricholic. I have found myself asking others for scraps, think that might be dangerous.
I hope this helps. There must be pics of crumb quilts on the pictures part of this forum.
