Window Quilts - Has anyone made them?
#1
Hi Everyone,
We live in an area that gets quite cold during the winter. I would like to try making my own window quilts for some of our windows this year. I've heard that this can be an expensive thing to do, depending on what materials one uses. Unfortunately, the two rooms I'd like to make them for have large windows, three in our bedroom, two in my sewing room.
Has anyone made any of these or know of any cost saving ways to do so? I was wondering why a person couldn't use an inexpensive store bought type quilt, then cut it to measure, or??? Or, is it any cheaper to start fresh with your own fabrics and batting, etc.? Thanks so much in advance.

To cut cost you could use fabric from old clothes which can be found pretty cheap at thrift stores.
You could also do a whole cloth quilt with two flat sheets and some batting! Get a couple solid color sheets and some thread and go to town quilting a pretty design! This is what the professional ones look like these days!

I plan to make a quilt curtain for our front door before winter sets in - I have the fabric and have decided on a pattern - just have to get on with it! :D I asked advice on here and got some good stuff - here's a link to the thread. http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/16826.page

Guess the joke is on me. I was just reading a prior post on this board regarding this issue from several months ago, only to find that I was one of the Posters answering [b][i] this very same question! I knew I was having some memory problems, but... this takes the cake! LOL
