Depends on what I'm making. Usually I buy fat qtrs., but sometimes I need full width strips.

Prefer at least 1/2 yards, but if a buy a quarter, I want it fat.

Skinny, definitely! I do a lot of strip piecing but love a scrappy look, so skinny long quarters work best for me....but I usually buy 1/2 yards or maybe more if I really love a fabric!

Yes... fat usually will be more servicable if you are using blocks or larger templates. The 9" width can be a little short so I too prefer 1/2 yards at least. I'm learning to buy a little "extra" though rather than not have enough for a project. Alot of online sales of fabric require minimum of a yard and that's not a bad thing either! If you have something specific in mind for the fabric, then go with whatever gives you the best cuts in your design.

FATS... but I too prefer 1/2 yard minimums. If I have the money and it is really something I like, a yard minimum. I do prefer yards and yards, miles and miles better though.

I like the fat quarters more for scrappy but like to buy 1/2 yard mostly.

Do you do mostly fully coordinated quilts Donna?
I see a pattern here. No pun intended.

Definitely the fat ones. I purchased several FQ from a couple ladies a few years back. When I opened them all up I was shocked there were so many skinny ones, just 44 " long. Kinda irritating as I thought all FQ were 18 x22. Ok, what if I wanted a 10" square? I sure learned from that one.

Either is okay for me. But if there's a larger print I'd go with a fat quarter.

FAT QUARTERS ONLY........I would never buy just 1/4 yard of fabric off the bolt.......my off the bolt minimum is one yard.

Fat quarters give you more options on the sizes you can cut from them, so I prefer fat quarters.

Definitely Fat Quarter. I have only bought 1/4 yards one time and that was for a Quilt in A Day pattern that called for it. I will even buy 1/2 yards in order to end up with 2 Fat quarters versus buying a quarter yard in shops that will not cut fat quarters. I also find 1/4 yard cuts are always wonky and by the time I have it squared up there is nothing left.

All fat quarters are 18 x 22 (or about that-depending on the width of the fabric). You didn't get fat quarters-that's false advertising.
