I was thinking a few days ago about setting a challenge for myself....a stash challenge. Nothing like "not buying fabric" or anything like that---as most of you know, I would fail...big time! What I was thinking about is kind of like a stash-buster challenge for myself.
I could pick out a magazine, book or pattern and find one pattern in it that I like. Then, pull from my stash without buying anymore than maybe one fabric and making a quilt from it. That would be good because I would be using my patterns and of course, using a little stash!!! No deadlines either....the goal is just to used my magazines, books, patterns and stash!!!

What do you think?

Sounds like a manageable challenge. I may try that too as I have lots of patterns, magazines and fabric waiting to be brought together!

Go for it! I'm trying to work from stash this year, but I keep sneaking in a yard at a time.

My goal for this month is to buy no fabric. I won't think about next month...

Great idea - I really do have plenty with which to work; but new fabric & books seem to call my name all too often. I am trying to use what I have for a while.

Sounds like a good plan. I made a goal to use everything in my scrap basket in one quilt. I made a two sided quilt and still had some left overs and 22 blocks for the next one. It felt very good to make something with just scraps. I love free quilts.

That's a great idea. When I get my sewing room finished and know what I have, I think I'll do that too. I know I have alot and I also know that I have alot more than I think I do.

I am going to the Sew Expo on Saturday. My goal is to not buy any more embroidery patterns. I have many and I really want to do up the ones I have before I get any more. Pray for me! I am so weak!!

Sounds great to me. FInd a magazine I have marked quilts in, find fabric in my stash, make myself a "kit" and have it ready to go. Then do another one. Then when I am ready to start, it's all there. Yeah.........love this idea.

Upon leaving the doctor's office we went to JoAnns and I looked for backing fabric for one of my GS's quilts. I didn't find anything I liked, but I happened to spot a lovely spring looking fabric in soft colors - white, and green with tiny pink flower blossoms. I thought it would make a pretty backing for my GGD's baby quilt. I got it home and checked it out. It looked good. I called my Mom to tell her the good news from the doctor and told her about the new fabric. Well, she told me it would be hidden on the back of Sophie's quilt unless it was turned over. So now, I'm going to let this fabric star in its own quilt top and buy different fabric for backing of the baby quilt. When I told my DH, he asked if the new fabric wouldn't work. I told him sure it would, but the new fabric is so pretty it deserves to be a quilt top, too. He said, "OH." I guess, I'm building a stash afterall. What fun! :)

For the last year I have been making quilts out of my stash and only buying something now and then. I've used up some "ugly" fabrics for backings and only bought backing fabric for a couple of really special quilts. I have finally reduced my stash quite a bit. Now the "problem" is I have so many scraps so when I finish my current project I need to start on a crazy quilt or something to start using the scraps.
