Hello, I Have A Question And I Need Your Help Ok I Am Making A Quilt A I Need To Know If I Should Put Stashing Between Rowes Or Between Each Block. I Seem To Be Having Problems Trying To Get The Picture In My mind On How It Should Look. Please Someone HELP Thank You Joanna

Can you take a picture? Generally, I lay mine out with different options and rehearse how they will look.

Do you have a large piece of solid that you can lay a few of your finished blocks on? that would give you an idea of how they would look with sashing as well as how wide you may want it. I sometimes draw a sketch of my blocks out-with and without sashing - with and without cornerstones

Well many quilts are just blocks put together. Even just squares. but if you think your blocks would stand out better with sashings, then by all means add them. lay some fabric down and place your blocks on it and stand back and look. you will make the right decision. sometimes it just takes viewing things first. Good luck.

To sash or not to sash, that is the question. Put your blocks against each other and see if the blocks make a secondary design. That can make a quilt more interesting. If no sashing just makes the blocks too busy together, then try different coloured sashing and see if you like it better. You can go to the picture gallery of QB and view some posted quilt pictures.

I lay my blocks out together and if I like them all next to each other, then I don't add any sashing.

If for whatever reason I don't like them right next to each other, then I lay them out on various pieces of fabric that I think might work and see which I like best.

Then I determine whether or not I want to do cornerstones. And for me the answer is usually yes. Most times I use a contrasting fabric (or sometimes several different ones) but occasionally I will use pieced blocks for cornerstones or add flying geese to the sashing to create stars around the cornerstones.

What ever material you're thinking about using, if it's still in a large piece just lay it out on that with room where the sashing would be. Take a picture then do it with whatever your other choice might be the same way and take couple more pics. Then you can stand back and see which you like. Lay it on the floor, across the bed, on a table. Look at the photos and then decide.
